☆ Programs for Writing and Text-editing

     - Held together by a Menu-system

☆  2 menus gives access to programs and data

(Placed in the '...\TxT\Office\1-Qsel' folder)

For help to the Menu see:Office Qsel

(Click on internal links - and use Ctrl-r to return)

=======================================

- All programs are in original installation-folders, and can be used independently.

- All programs are share & Freeware; see: Legal

-------------------------------------------------

☆ The Basic Package #

The folder '..\TxT\..'

contains the TxT office

- It is made when 'TxT.zip' is uncompressed, and contains the sub-folders 'OFFICE'; 'PRG'; 'MP' and 'ZIP'.

▬ ..\TxT\OFFICE\..

is the main folder - it can be copied and be placed anywhere (On a Hard-Drive or an USB stick).

The complete version is around 7 MB in size.

It contains 6 numbered folders, that are populated with support-files (controling the TxT office functionality) during the un-zipping of 'TxT.zip'.

NEW in R3: The subfolders under OFFICE are now pre-populated with programs, and everything is ready for use when the 'TxT.zip' file is unzipped.

All programs are shareware, and can be freely used for Business and Pleasure, and can freely be re-distributed in the original distributionfolders - see: Legal

☆ NEW in R3: All original distribution-folders are now collected in ONE folder ('PRG')

▬  ..\TxT\PRG1\..

contains the original distribution-folders with the menu-program (Qsel) and 7 editors.

► MemPad #

is the main program. A small but strong outliner. It contains a diary-function that creates a page for every day.

A 'page' can be as long as you wish, and can hold 'sub-pages' ( see: MemPad for a more in-depth explanation. See also the comprehensive original help (in english)

- The help-file is opened by the F1 key (Try it at once!)

MemPad is also suited for writing longer texts (assignments; reports; novels...)

The MemPad folder '2-MP' (with MemPad, supportfiles and program-extensions) contains everything that is needed for the production of text, and will work on its own. It is about 2 MB in size.

► ShowTx & TED #

Text editors - a small that closely integrates with MemPad, and a big one, with advanced search- and sort functions.

► Edxor & fSekrit #

Texteditors with advanced security functions.

► HTML DocEdit & Gwennel Doc #

Graphical editors. The first can read and write simple HTML files (web format) and can work as a viewer for pictures and animated .gif files. The other can write in the .odt format, that can be used by all office-programs.

This is everything needed for a serious writing-workshop, enabling you to produce, archive and distribute text for all purposes. It is about 3 MB in size.

But the TxT office can be made complete, with a planning calendar, spreadsheet, table tools and advanced filesearching.

To do that, you will have to unzip and prepare 3 extra program folders, of about 5 MB in total.

☆ EDIT: In R3 all the extensions are included in the 'PRG' folder

-------------------------------------------------

☆ Extension no. 1

PRG2 (Calendar; Clock; Taskmanagement; Tablefunctions)

Unzip distributionfile to the 'TxT' folder.

► Reminder & Calendar #

Calendar and Taskmanager. closely integrated with MemPad.

► TTclock & TimeZonesView & Greyline Map #

A Clock with countdown (timer), stop-watch, and alarm-clock - several instances can be active at the same time.

An extended Clock, showing time around the world in a table (updated every second) - with dates for beginning/end of Daylight Savings Time for relevant areas.

An Animated World Map, showing where the sun shines - gives an intuitive overview over where people are at work/asleep: Perfect for activity on social media.

► CSV FileView & uni CSV Ed & TableTextCompare #

The first program is for viewing and sorting tables. Can make an HTML table from text-tables (in whole or in part) for distribution in web-format) Will make a table from contents in a text-file; This function is integrated in MemPad.

The next program is for making and editing tables.

The last program creates a report showing the difference between two tables - Especially good for analyzing big log-files.

-------------------------------------------------

☆ Extension no. 2

PRG3 (Spreadsheet and Hashvalues)

Unzip distributionfile to the 'TxT' folder.

► Spread32 #

A complete spreadsheet, with all the usual functions but limited graphics. With a size of under 1 MB!

► HashMyFiles #

Computes the 6 most used 'hash-values' for one or more files. Hash-values are used to insure that files (from the net) are unchanged, or to identify files with different names/locations, but the same content.

-------------------------------------------------

☆ Extension no. 3

PRG4 (Filesearch, dataharvesting from windows, og filelistings)

► Search My Files #

Find files on the hard-drive - Many more functions than Windows built-in file-finder. And faster!

► System Exporter #

Contents of Pop-up windows and system-information-boxes are often impossible to copy. This program is for making copies in text-format, when a screenshot won't do.

► Snap 2 HTML #

Make a copy of a datastructure: The Program creates an HTML file, that in any browser (supporting JavaScript) will show the Windows explorer Folder, with subfolders and files. Shows the full name and size of all content, is easy to navigate, shows more information than Windows Explorer, and can easily be distributed on the web.

Unzipping

Programs in the 'PRG' folder are all free shareware, and can be used as is.

But they supplement each other, and integrating them in the TxT office frame, enhances their useability.

In Release 3 the installation is easier than in R1 (=version 0.2NE.1 / 2021-04-21) and R2

☆ All programs are 'portable' - ie. they should NOT be installed in Windows, and can be placed where practical.

That can be on a harddisk, or a USB stick (or a memory-card)

Newest version of the TxT office (TxT kontoret) vil normally be in the repository at:

Choose the english install file - like the danish, it is named 'TxT.zip', but they are placed in different libraries.

Put it where you want (except for windows 'Programs' folder!) and unzip.

It will create the folder 'TxT', which contains these sub-folders:

► MP (A self-contained mini-office - only with writing tools & no help-files)

► OFFICE (The full TxT office, in 6 sub-folders)

► PRG (Contains all programs in their original distribution folders)

► ZIP (Empty folder - for storage of used .zip files)

=======================================

Now, final set-up can begin - see: /Index/Unzipping/ Set-up

The TxT office / Unzipping /

Set-up

☆ The main folder is 'OFFICE'

- containing the TxT office programs, and the files connecting the system.

The folder looks like this:

► OFFICE

► 1-Qsel

► 2-MP

► 3-ED

► 4-TIME

► Calendar

► Languages

► CLOCK

► 5-TABLE

► 6-DIV

☆ ☆ DONE!

You can now begin using the TxT office - See: Use

First move 'TxT.zip' into the ZIP folder (to avoid accidental re-runs)

● The english language version uses shortcuts and names in english!

☆ NB: If the TxT office is used on a modern (64 bit) computer, you should exchange the 32 bit versions of the following programs:

..\1-Qsel\Qsel.exe

..\2-MP\Mempad.exe

..\3-ED\ShowTx.exe

..\4-TIME\Reminder.exe

..\4-TIME\Calendar\Calendar.exe

The TxT office is now ready! - To get started - see: /Index/Unzipping/ Use

The TxT office / Unzipping /

Use

The Menu-program Qsel keeps the TxT office together!

Begin by opening the folder OFFICE\1-Qsel

Make a shortcut to the program Qsel.exe, and place it on the desktop; in Windows start-menu, or in the desktop Taskbar.

Try the shortcut (ie. start Qsel)

Now a menu will open at the right side of the screen, and the MemPad file 'Welcome.lst'

will open.

(This is the english version - to open the danish 'Velkommen.lst', use the 'Open' command in the File menu)

This contains a guide, leading you through the system.

The 'Office' menu's 2. item: 'Help', opens the english help-file 'TxT.help' (on the page 'Navigation', explaining how to move around in a MemPad file)

To open the danish version of the help file ('Kontor.help') use the file menu - or rightclick to the right of the tool bar.

Keep the office help file open while reading 'Welcome.lst'

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

In MemPad, the authors original help (MemPad.help) is comprehensive, and is opened by the F1 key; this is the main MemPad help, and the chapter in TxT.help (\\see:Index/MemPad/) is only a supplement.

There is a special help-file for TED, which can be opened from the 'File' menu in any MemPad file with the .help extension.

The TxT office / Unzipping /

Update

You can update the programs by downloading a new version from their home-page, and manually overwrite the old versions.

(All programs in the TxT office package are selected to be long-term stable, so it will normally not be necessary)

If you unzip new versions to a new folder, and manually copy the necessary files to the TxT offices program-folders (and the numbered folders inside the 'KONTOR' folder), the risk of accidentally deleting your own files will be minimized.

=======================================

☆ New Releases of the TxT office

When included programs are updated with important new functions, or important bug-fixes, a new release will be placed in a new sub-folder in the packages MEGA folder

https://mega.nz/folder/YN4mVQQa#Yu6bXSVKVAPqQD8dqzYDsQ

This folder vil contain:

► LæsMig.txt og ReadMe.txt

(Guides to installation)

► A table of Hash values for the supplied files

► TxT.zip with the new release

The TxT office /

MemPad

MemPad is the main program in the TxT office. #

===================================

MemPad is an outliner, that divides texts in pages. Pages can have Sub-Pages (hereafter: s/p)

Outliners makes it easy to structure a text - and to make long texts accessible.

MemPad is made to be a practical writing tool.

It is easy to integrate MemPad with other programs, and the TxT office is one way of doing it - use the finished menus and shortcuts as inspiration for yor personal setup.

===================================

F1 => Opens the original help ('MemPad.help', in english), which is comprehensive and easy to read.

F8 => is MemPads program-launcher

- The key opens a menu: press 'd' for Danish help

This will open 'Kontor.help' (in a separate window)

- Press 'h' for english help

This will open 'TxT.help' (in a separate window)

When the help-file is open, it pays to press 'F1' to open a window with the original help. (Move the 'F1' window to see both help-files)

F8 + z => opens a note-file (.lst file for long notes)

'+' opens a sub-menu

'z.lst' - this file is an easy way to start a new project - If it is renamed in Windows Explorer, a new, empty, 'z.lst' file will be opened the next time you use F8 + z.

F8 e => opens the 'Editor' menu - use initial to open the editor you want

===================================

Ctrl-TAB jumps between Text- and Index-pane.

Use Arrow-keys to change Page in the index-pane.

☆ TIP: If MemPad is minimized to the System tray (selectable from the 'Settings' menu), rightclicking the icon gives access to the F8 launcher menu

----------------------------------------------------------------

The TxT office / MemPad /

Idea

MemPad is a tool for notetaking

The Outliner-function makes it easy to sort notes by subject.

There can be many 'pages' in a MemPad file, but you work with a page like it was a textfile. ( see: Pages )

________________________________________________

Usually, all pages are Locked (Red 'stopsign' in the Toolbar) Unlock the page you are working on (Click the 'Stopsign' or use the sortcut Ctrl-l)

- That leaves the rest of the file protected; The 'Select All' command only select the content of the current page (the one selected in the index-pane, and shown in the status bar at the bottom of the window)

________________________________________________

► MemPads files are archive-safe.

Archive-safe means that they can be read even if left for years...

A MemPad-file (usually with the '.lst' suffix) can be read by any text-editor (like MS Notepad), even though it contains a little binary code.

► If you edit the file with Notepad it might no longer be usable in MemPad, but you can always access your data.

► The export-function and the context (right-click) menu gives access to the text in '.txt' format. (Which is expected to be useable for many decades to come)

► Contents of a MemPad file can be exported to a textfile that is useable in any editor, and can be imported into MP (with the '.lst' suffix, or any other ) (see: Datafolder) with the original page-structure (as shown in the Index-pane)

► The exported text-file can also be opened by the converter MPHtml, which makes a '.htm' file from a user-defined template.(.htm files - HTML files - are basically web-pages, and are also expected to be useable for the foreseeable future)

► MemPad (and the TxT office) is so small that you can leave a copy in archive-folders, so files can be read/edited with the programs that created them.

Dictionary

 Terminology / Thesaurus / Vocabulary  #

▬  ▬  ▬  ▬  ▬  ▬  ▬  ▬  ▬  ▬

☆ Context-menu (Right-click menu)

=> Index and Text-pane each have its own context-menu.

Menu-key or Right-click activates the menu - in the textpane there are more options if text is selected

☆  Favourite page

=> A page can be made into a (temporary) 'favourite', making it easy to jump to.

-- Make current page a Favourite by entering:

Alt (and then) S (In the danish version - in the english it is Alt P)

-- in the menu item 'Favorite', select 'Gør denne side...' ('Assign this page' in english version)

=> Jump to the Favourite-page with Alt-Q (or click on an empty spot in the index-pane)

=> Via the menu the favourite-page can be changed or deactivated

☆  File group

=> Files with the same suffix (usually '.lst') are in the same file group.

A file group shares an '.ini-file', giving them the same look and properties.

ALT F → (Right Arrow) or rightclick to the right of the Tool bar, opens a menu with files in the current group

☆   Index-pane / Navigation-pane

=> The column (Sidebar) to the left show the page-titles in the file.

'+' indicates hidden sub-pages

The current page is strongly marked (blue), when the Index have the focus, and weakly marked (grey) when the Text-pane have the focus (is writeable)

The Index can be hidden/revealed by Ctrl-Win

☆  Page/Sub-page (or Node/Sub-node, or Mainpage/Children)

=> (abbreviation: p and s/p)

=> The top of the hierarchy is to the left in the Index-pane.

=> s/p (and their s/p) are to the right in the Index-pane.

=> pages on the same level of the hierarchy are called Siblings.

=>A page can be given another background colour than the standard.

This colour is inherited by s/p.

Changing (or restoring) the background colour affects both page and s/p.

☆  Program window

=> You can have several open MemPad instances, for the same or for different file groups. (a file can only be open in one window)

The Program window contains:

Icon (can be changed) and filename

Menu

Toolbar (can be hidden)

Index-pane (can be hidden)

Status bar (can be hidden)

Text pane

☆  Status bar

=> At the bottom; shows how the current page is placed in the hierarchy.

(And cursor location, with number of selected characters in brackets)

☆  Template

=> Two types:

Internal template (Text on a MemPad page, to be copied and inserted on another page) and

External template (a file in '.txt' format - (exported from MP) Can be imported into an existing MP file, or be used when making a new. Used when the resulting page should contain a structure with s/p)

=> Also see: Index/MemPad/Functions/ Insert

☆  Text-pane

=> The content of the current page (as selected in the Index-pane)

On opening, the page is write-protected, and must be 'Unlocked' to be writeable (Red 'Stop-sign' in Tool bar = The page is Locked/Write-protected)

All normal text-editing functions works on the page, WITHOUT touching other pages in the file. ('Select all' will only select text on the current page - and the Find/Replace function is selectable between current page and all pages)

☆  Tool bar

=> The Icon-line under the menu

The first Icon ('New...') select what happens next time the 'Add New Page' (Alt-Ins) function is used;

The '//' icon can be clicked to collapse unused s/p's, or right-clicked to open all;

The 'M' icon puts current page on top of the memory stack (for easy return by Ctrl-r or click on the left (back) arrow in the Tool bar)

The 2 last keeps the program 'On Top' on your Windows desktop; and opens the Quick start / program-launcher-menu. (F8)

Rightclick to the right of the icons open a menu with files in the current file group

Pages

A MemPad file is a textfile where the text is divided into pages, that can be arranged in a hierarchy where only the top level is visible

A page is the content of a text-pane (like this page), and can be edited like a normal text-file.

A page can be as long as you want, but it pays to use the page hierarchy, as seen in the index-panel to the left, to divide the text in smaller pieces by using sub-pages (s/p) - it makes both editing and reading easier;

☆  In the Index pane use:

  Shift-Alt-c to show all pages in a file

Alt-c to hide unused pages

Ctrl-L Locks/Unlocks pages (Red Stopsign = Locked)

(Numerical keyboard)

+ Opens s/p on the 1. level (like right arrow)

- Close s/p on the 1. level (like left arrow)

* Opens all s/p of the current page

/ Close all s/p of the current page

(Status bar at the bottom of the program window show where the current page is placed in the hierarchy)

TAB Moves Focus from Index- to Text-pane

Ctrl-TAB Move Focus from text- to Index-pane

Usually all pages are locked (write protected) when a MemPad file is opened.

(Locked pages are marked by a red 'Stopsign' in the Tool bar)

This can be changed in the 'Indstillinger' (Settings) menu, but it is safer only to unlock the page you are working on.

Pages are Locked/Unlocked with the shortcut Ctrl-L  - or a click on the 'stopsign'

MemPad pages (The titles are seen in the Index-pane to the left) can (when the title is in focus/strongly marked) be:

Created

Moved

Deleted

Sorted

Exported

Sub-pages (s/p) can be Shown/Hidden

Individual pages can be write-protected

The Top level of the page hierarchy is at the far left,

lower levels (sub-pages) are placed in columns towards the right side.

A Search (Ctrl-f) can be limited to the current page - practical (and safe!) when Search/Replace is used...

\\☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠_☠

NB: W A T C H   O U T  ...

Page commands works on sub-pages, Also when they are hidden or locked;

Be careful with what you delete or move.

☆ Extra safety: Write-protecting the file (read-only) is easy with the menu:

Alt f    Opens file-menu

  Write-protection on / off

(In the danish version: 'S' for 'Skrivebeskyttet')

===========================

☆  Create new page

=> A normal (empty) page is created like this:

- Select the page OVER the wanted place

- Insert (Create) the page with Alt-Ins

(The new page is inserted under the selected,

on the same level of the page hierarchy - ie. in the same column)

- Give the page a title/name, and jump to the text-pane with 'Tab'

===========================

☆  Export page  see: Export

=> Import a page (with sub-pages)  see: Import

- Select a page OVER the wanted place (On the same level in the page hierarchy)

- Select 'Import page...' with the 'New...>' button - or 'Alt-1' 'i' (Import..)

- Insert (Create) the page with Alt-Ins

- Select source file:

(It is recommended to use 'tmp.txt' as name for the temporary file created by the export-function.

===========================

☆  Move page

=> Alt + Arrow Up/Down moves a page up/down between shown pages

=> Alt + Arrow Left/Right move the page up/down in the page hierarchy

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

=> Alt-X Marks the page (with s/p) for movement

- it stays in place until you:

Insert with Alt-Ins

===========================

☆  Delete page

=> Alt-Del deletes a page with all sub-pages. (including hidden)

- Watch OUT: Locked / write-protected pages will also be deleted!!!

(Write-protect the complete file to avoid this risk)

===========================

☆  Sort pages (On the same level in the page hierarchy as the selected)

=> Alt-F12 sort pages alphabetically by title.

- WATCH OUT: This sorting can NOT be undone. Make a Back-up before sorting.

===========================

☆  Hide/Show Sub-pages (when index-pane have the focus)

=> Click the '+' marking by the page title to show; and '-' to hide.

=> Arrow keys:

- Right arrow shows hidden sub-pages. (and moves DOWN in the page hierarchy)

- Left arrow moves UP in the hierarchy, and hides sub-pages.

=> Nummerical keypad

+ Opens s/p on the 1. level (like right arrow)

- Close s/p on the 1. level (like left arrow)

* Opens all s/p of the current page

/ Close all s/p of the current page

Alt-c Close/Hide all unused pages

Shift-Alt-c Show/Reveal all pages in the file

The TxT office / MemPad /

Datafolder

Other Folders / INI-files

==================

MemPad expects that system- and data-files are in the program folder.

A MemPad window can not open files outside of the folder it started in.

(But the launcher (F8) can open an instance in another folder - Eg. F8 + t will open 'tasks.lst' in the folder '4-TIME'. It has it own INI file ('Memlst.ini' - placed in the '4-TIME' folder) giving it a different look)

If you have many active files in the same folder, you can make groups with a different look.

It is done by putting the files in different file groups (a file group are files with the same suffix. MemPads standard is .lst)

☆  Every file group has its own INI file (.lst use 'Memlst.ini' & .help use 'Memhelp.ini') controlling looks and properties.

==================

☆  All files in the same file group as the current MemPad window can be seen by right-clicking to the right of ︾ (Chevron) in the Tool bar.

- or by keyboard: Alt f →  (Opens menu w. files in the Datafolder)

☆  If MemPad has to open files from another filegroup, it must be in a new window.

(Alt m n)(Select 'For other file group'; Select one, or make a new - avoid suffixes that are used by other programs)

==================

Files that are not often used, or belong to a project, can be moved to another folder (ie.  not the program-folder), and be used without a copy of MemPad in the folder.

MemPad can not directly open files outside of the program-folder, but can open another MemPad instance with a start-link (Program-folder and Data-folder can be seen under '?' in the menu; click, and the folder is opened in Windows explorer)

The link can be the 'start in' field in a windows shortcut, but in the TxT office it will be an item in an Qsel menu, or a link in MemPads launcher menu (F8)

If MemPad is used from a hard-drive on a PC the program can be put into windows rightclick menu - that allows MemPad to open files outside its own folder - without having to write links.

Let the MemPad INI-file in each data-folder be different, making the files in each folder look different.

☆ How to add MemPad to Windows Explorers context/right-click menu:

- In MemPads program-folder (can be opened via '?' in the menu), right-click on Mempad.exe.

- Select 'Make Shortcut' (that creates a shortcut in the folder, that can be moved or copied)

- Copy the Shortcut with Ctrl-c

- In Windows explorers addres bar write:

shell:sendto (and then, Return - This will open the SendTo folder)

- Right-click in the SendTo folder, and 'Insert Shortcut' - the shortcut will now be in the Right-click menu (can also be accessed by the Menu key).

Test it:

- Select an '.lst' file (or another MemPad file) in windows explorer;

Input:

Menu (the Menu-key... or right-click on the file)

t (sends the selected file to a program from  the list that opens when you enter)

(Right Arrow)

Return (Now the file will open in MemPad )(If MemPad is at the top of the list - names and sort-order in the SendTo folder can be changed as needed)

(The MemPad instance will use the INI file from the data-folder; if none exists, one will be created) MemPad will use the Laucher and Insert-menu files from its program-folder - unless you create new copies and put them in the data folder; ie the MemPad instance that opens in the 'Reminder' folder via the F8 (Launcher) menu, will have its own Launcher-menu)

☆  The first time MemPad saves a file in another data-folder, a new ini-file will also be saved in that folder: It will control the look and properties of the MemPad instance,

and can be used to differentiate archived files in the DATA folder, and active files in the MemPad folder by (eg) differently coloured backgrounds

Save the MemPad file (creating an .ini file in the data-folder), BEFORE changing the settings.

A MemPad instance, showing a file in another folder, can ONLY open files in this folder. (called the Data-folder - can be opened in windows explorer by MemPads '?' menu - Input: Alt ? d Return)

If MemPad is commanded to open a non-existent file in an existent folder, the file will be created.

That can be used to insert catalogue-files in folders - EG:

A line inserted in 'Launcher.txt' (which defines the content of the F8 menu see: Functions/ Launcher) looking like this...

-------------------------

+/DATA (Open Catalogue);Mempad.exe; ..\DATA\DATA.lst

-------------------------

...will create the file 'DATA.lst' (opens in a new MemPad window)

when you in the F8 menus '+' sub-menu selects the item 'DATA (Open Catalogue)'

(IF the 'DATA' folder exists inside the 'KONTOR'-folder.

If the file already exists, it will be opened)

(- The next time you enter 'F8 + d' the file will open in a new window. Use it as a descriptive catalogue, or as a way to open a MemPad instance in the DATA folder, and from there open other (archived) MemPad files)

NB: The premade Launcher file already contains a file-creating item:

If you Input:

F8 + z

A new file (named 'z.lst') will be created in MemPads program-folder - see the demonstration in the 'Welcome.lst' guide to using the TxT office.

Functions

=======================================

As prepared in the TxT office

=======================================

The 'Pages' (seen in the Index-panel to the left) makes this program an outliner - where the text is organized in sub-pages (sub-nodes) under a main page (Node), and is useful for segmentation of longer texts - for editing or publishing. ( see: Pages about how to create, move, delete et c. pages)

MemPad works as a normal tekst-editor when writing.

The usual (windows) keyboard-shortcuts  are useable (see: Navigation/ Windows)

In addition there are a series of functions to streamline the writing and editing of texts

( see: Navigation/ Shortcuts )

☆  Insert-menus (can be changed without restarting MemPad, making them useable as clip-board for text-fragments/characters that has to be inserted several times. Insert

☆  Send-To function for dictionary look-up &c. (2 keypresses) Send To

☆  Launcher gives access to other programs with 2 keypresses. Launcher

☆  Journal function: jump to an empty diary-page with 1 keypress. Journal

☆  Links can be written, and will immediately work. (see: Links )

==> Internal is for a page in the file

==> File-links opens another file

The TxT office / MemPad / Functions /

Insert

☆ There are 3 insert-menus  (can be changed while MemPad is running)

☆ Link-function (can be written directly in the text  see: Links )

☆ Timestamp (1 keypress(F5) can be changed in the .ini file after closing down MemPad)

=====================================

Insert-menus are used to insert characters or phrases in the text - assures a consistent spelling... are useful for HTML codes &c., and are used for the bulletpoints (► ☆   ▬ ) I use to make the text more readable.

(This help-file often refers to the 'Menu' key - but right-click can be used instead)

Menu- and ini-files are textfiles. (Back-up copies:  see: SYS )

=====================================

☆  F5 Inserts #timestamp

(You can have several in MemPads ini-file, but only one active

- the unused are deactivated with a semicolon ';' as the first character on the line)

\\see:SYS/MemPad/Memlst.ini

☆  Ctrl-Menu (Used for the star at the beginning of the line &c.)

\\see:SYS/MemPad/InsCtrl.txt

☆  Shift-Menu (Timestamps, List-template, bulletpoint)

\\see:SYS/MemPad/InsShift.txt

☆  Ctrl-Shift-Menu (Insert picture-link, &c.)

\\see:SYS/MemPad/InsShiftCtrl.txt

=====================================

☆

▬ The List-template can be inserted in a text, and bulletpoints inserted inside the template.

In the example in the Shift-Menu the Bullet-point command

('li')

End up as a numbered point in a list, if it is inserted between the Beginning ('ol')  and End ('/ol') commands for 'ordered list' -

when the page is converted to HTML. (see: MemPad/ Export) The point will contain all lines until the next 'li' command, or the end of the list.

▬ It is convenient to change the F5 timestamp in the INI file if a copy of MemPad outside of you usual working folder (eg. a copy on an USB stick) - that way you can see where the posts originate if data from more files are collated.

 \\see: Datafolder

▬ Obfuscating the #timestamp

If the Timestamp is used as a unique identifier, it can be distracting that it shows the order of writing...

If the time is not secret, but irrelevant, it is normal practice to obfuscate (hide) it by converting to HEX.

- That can be done in Windows calculator; select the coders calculator; copy the Timestamp (numbers only) from MemPad; insert in the calculator; click the HEXadecimal button; copy the hexadecimal number and insert into the MemPad-file (The original Timestamp can be left inside an angle bracket, for printing or displaying on a web-page) - text in angle brackets are inserted into the HTML file when converting, but is not displayed by the browser.

Example:

[EDIT: #181102111409] => EDIT: #2A2A86EAB1

When converting from MemPad to a .htm page the line will look like this in the browser or when printed:

=> EDIT: #2A2A86EAB1

- the text inside the angle bracket is still in the .htm source

- - it can be seen if the source is opened in an editor, and will be in the copy if it is inserted in a wordprocessor, like MS Word!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The Edx editor (can be opened with F8 e) can convert to HEX, or encrypt the text. see: Office/ Edx

The TxT office / MemPad / Functions /

Send To

Menu-key (or right-click) with the text-pane in focus opens a context menu.

At the bottom of the menu are the 'send-to' shortcuts from the file 'Lookup.txt'

\\see:SYS/MemPad/Lookup.txt

==================================================

Select and Copy text, and use:

Menu-key.

- and then select function by initial:

T TED (Inserts the copied text in a new TED Notepad window)

A CSV tAble (comma or TAB separated text is opened by CSVFileView)

E (EDIT) The text is inserted in a normal ShowTx window.

V (View) Iserts the text in a temporary ShowTx window.

=======================================

In 'View' mode the  text cannot be saved (but it can be copied)

The 'View' file disappears when the ShowTx window is closed with the Esc-key.

=======================================

The 'View' function can be used to view a MemPad page, while working on another.

Several ShowTx windows can be open at the same time.

Use background-colour to differentiate them.

- If an unwanted background-colour has been saved, the standard-colour can be restored by copying the colour line from the back-up pages ( see: SYS ) for ShowTx.ini.

- If the .ini file is write-protected, ShowTx will always open with the standard settings for colour and size.

More about the ShowTx editor: see: Office/ ShowTx

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

Comma and TAB separated text in MemPad, can (via ShowTx) be saved with the suffix '.csv' - and be used as a table by the tableeditor uniCSVed, and any spreadsheet or office-program.

Watch OUT: ShowTx usually saves in UTF-8 format (web-format w. Unicode characters) - MS Excel do NOT like UTF-8 !

=======================================

CSVFileView is integrated in the 'Send To' menu:

☆ Example: (works in version 2.52 and above)

U S I N G   A   T A B L E

- Copy the text between the double-lines below:

=======================================

No. Group Value Tertiary

1 c 2 0

2 a 3 0

3 a 2 0

4 b 2 0

5 d 0 0

6 c 3 0

7 b 9 0

8 a 1 0

9 c 1 0

10 b 9 2

11 b 9 3

12 a 3 1

=======================================

Now Enter:

Menu a (open CSVFileView, this will insert the table from the clipboard)

Alt v → (opens the View Menu, the 'Sort by' line)

↓ Return (vælger 'Group': The Table will be sorted by group - observe that the content of the columns 'Value' og 'Tertiary' are unsorted)

----------- Enter:

Alt v → (opens 'Sort by' again)

↓ ↓ Shift Return (sorts by 'Value', while keeping the 'Group' sorting - observe that the Tertiary are unsorted)

----------- Tast:

Alt v → (opens 'Sort by' again)

↓ ↓ ↓  Shift Return (keeps the already made sorts, and make a third after the 'Tertiary' column)

_______________________________________

Make an HTML table with CSVFileView:

Enter: Alt v h

The table will open in your standard browser - The HTML file is in the '2-MP' folder (with the working copy of the program) and is named 'report.html' - it will automatically be deleted when the browser-window is closed; Save it with another name if you want to use it later. (save with the browser, or with TED, where the file is added to the 'Favourites' menu  - wich can be opened with Alt a 3)

see: Office\ CSVFileView for more about this program.

Journal

The Diary (Journal) (F6) is a strong point of MemPad.

=======================================

(Test it in another MemPad file - this help-file is read-only)

=======================================

No matter what page of a MemPad file is active, using the function-key:

F6 (jump to - or create - a diary page)

(If there is a page with the name of the current year)

As an example click \\see:2021/september/13 ma  (I had only made the page 2021 (the year of translation), before using the F6 key)

NB: These sub-pages only exists in the orig. MemPad file (TxT.help)

In combination with #timestamp (F5) and insert-menus it's a good tool for diary making

(Telephone messages, animal husbandry, machine-support, &c.)

F6 jumps to the last cursor-position on the current diary, making it easy to quickly insert a new (timestamped) note.

Put longer notes on a s/p, and make a link from the diary-page - that makes it easier to navigate. (F6 jumps to the diary page - NOT to sub-pages)

Use TAG's - like:

#! Open Task

(a 'To be finished by' stamp, like: #dead: 20181224 - can be added with an easily searchable/sortable date format)

#w Work-related

F5 insert #timestamp works as an unique identifier for posts (Let each person/projekt have a separate #timestamp - as defined in the INI file)

- Use it in tasklists, and in Date Reminder - The remindertool can link to a specific MemPad page from a reminder post. (Made to create tasklists - can share data with MemPad, the table editor uniCSVed, the tablevieweren CSVFileView, and office-programs) see:  Office\ Reminder

Keep a MemPad journal/calendar in each project-folder, and differentiate posts from different projects with different timestamps.

The TxT office / MemPad / Functions /

Encryption

If you transport MemPad on an USB stick, it is advisable to encrypt, to protect personal/confidential data.

MemPad uses Windows encryption algoritms;

It is strong enough to make it impossible to regain access to you data if you forget the password. (!)

In the File menu (Alt f) you should mark the line 'Encrypt?'

When the file is closed, a command-box will prompt you for a password.

When the file is opened, you will be asked for the password.

► WATCH OUT:

The file is now password-protected, and will be automatically encrypted when closed.

Remove protection by removing the check-mark from 'Encrypt?', when the file is open.

=======================================

If there is a need to encrypt a sub-page (or part of one) seperately, the editor 'Edxor' can be used - see: Office/ Edx /More

(EG: If you keep a MemPad file with passwords, each can be put on a separate page, to avoid decrypting the ones that are not needed at the moment.)

To share an encrypted message with other (windows-users), it can be written (or copied into) fSekrit - which saves the file in a small .exe file containing a copy of the editor

The TxT office / MemPad / Functions /

Links

☆ Links can be written directly into the text, and can be used immediately.

(There must be a Space after links)

There are two types:

Internal links and file-links

=======================================

1: ==> Internal links goes to a page in the current file.

(Double-click to follow the link; use Ctrl-r to return)

EG: \\see:MemPad/Functions/Encryption

- To avoid writing long links, there is an insert-function:

- - On the target page for the link, use Alt-o (get link)

- - Insert the link with Ctrl-o (at the place where you want the link)

That wil insert a relative link, like this:

\\see:Journal

(NB: This only works inside MemPad files...)

To insert an absolute link (which works if you have several pages with the same name, or if the link is to a page with a different top-level page) use Shift-Ctrl-o

This will give a link looking like this:

\\see:/Index/MemPad/Functions/Journal

(The full path as seen in the status-line)

- The link can also be written - like this:

\\See:[pagename]

'\\' (Double backslash), 'See' and ':' (Colon) is codephrases that activate the link-function

As soon as a link is written, it is clickable (if the target exists!)

If there is a Space in the linked page-title, the link must be enclosed in sharp brackets, like this:

<\\See:Send To>

If the links ends in a '/' (Slash), sub-pages will open - Like this:

\\See:Journal/ (Only the 1st level is opened, so not the s/p's of the s/p)

=======================================

2: ==> File-links opens another file:

Menu key (or right-click) f opens the 'Create file-link' command box, where a target file can be selected.

The link can also be written (like an internal link)

File:/tmp.txt

(Opens 'tmp.txt' with the program windows has registered for .txt files - Usually Notebook)

File:/ShowTx.exe

(Opens ShowTx in MemPads Data-folder)

File:...\3-ED\TedNPad.exe

(Opens TED in the Editor folder)

Export

The Export function has its own menu - open it with Alt e

=======================================

Use it to make textfiles (.txt format) from:

- The current page

- The current page WITH all sub-pages

- The complete MemPad file (ALL pages and sub-pages)

Exported text-files can be used for:

- Making formatted pages in HTML format (web format)

(With the included add-on program MPHtml)

- Import into other MemPad files (or another place in the same file) with intact Page/Sub-Page structure.

- Text-files for use in other programs (or as back-up)

---------------------------------------

Export to an HTML file:

► Activate with the short-cut Alt e

Select Single Page; Page Structure; or All

In the command-window,

Export to:

.\tmp.txt

(standard file for temporary texts - is continually overwritten)

put a check-mark by

'Title-decoration' (In the box must always be a '[$]' (Dollar sign in an angle bracket)

and

'Open the file' (place bullet by 'With Program')

MPhtml.exe (should be pre-selected - otherwise navigate to it and select it)

Click 'OK' and MPHtml will open

==> See: HTML for guide and codes to place inside the MemPad-file for the wanted output.

Here you will also find examples of how a text will look in MemPad, and shown in a browser.

---------------------------------------

Export - for re-import in MemPad:

► In the command-window there should NOT be a check-mark by 'Title-decoration'

and 'Open the file'

==> See: Import (Pages, with sub-pages, can be copied to another place in the file, or inserted in another MemPad file)

=======================================

Comments:

Always export to the file 'tmp.txt' (and convert to the file 'tmp.htm')

By always using the same file-names, you avoid filling the data-folder with obsolete files.

And the pre-made shortcuts in MemPads Launcher-menu (F8), and TED's favourite menu will work...

(See MemPad/Functions/ Launcher

and

See: Index/Office/ TED )

Use a Level-symbol that usually do NOT appear in your texts (But be careful with using a Unicode-symbol (web-standard) if the text must be imported on ANSI systems (Windows / DOS standard)

In the 'TxT kontor' we used the Trademark-symbol ('™') - if that is impractical, another can be found in Windows Character Map - in MemPad it can be opened with F8 + c

Pages that are exported to a text-file (without 'Page docoration' selected in the export-command box) can be imported with an intact page-structure.

=======================================

In the Index-pane to the left:

Mark the page over the position where you want the imported page.

Select the source for the new page with Alt-1 (or click the 'New...>' button in the tool-line.

Select 'Import page or structure'

Enter Alt-Ins to make a new page.

In the command-box the source-file is selected (a filename without path will refer to the MemPad data-folder - in here, newly exported text should be in the 'tmp.txt' file)

(Standard text and layouts that you expect to reuse several times can be given a name - and can be placed everywhere)

If the source-file is exported with another Level-symbol than used in the target-file, it must be copied from the file, and inserted in the Import command-box.

Pages (and their sub-pages) will now be inserted under the selected page.

A page (including s/p's) kan be moved by the Alt-key in combination with:

► Arrow Up/Down (↑/↓) => Moves the page up or down on the page.

► Left Arrow (←)  => Moves the page UP in the page-hierarchy

► Right Arrow (→) => Makes the page a s/p (DOWN in the page hierarchy)

=======================================

A textfile can be directly imported into a MemPad page - If the file-suffix is 'txt'

The TxT office / MemPad /

HTML

MemPad has an export function (Alt e) which makes it possible to export a page (and it's sub-pages, if needed) to a text-file.

These files can be used as-is, but can also be converted to HTML (web-standard) by the small conversion-program MPhtml.

The exported pages have a structure, that MPhtml uses to make a HTML (.htm) formatted page.

Each MemPad page will be a 'bullet-point' in an unordered HTML list - and will be given a headline, with a level (design) based on its place in the original MemPad page-hierarchy.

When the page is shown in a browser (or in the included HTML editor see: Index/Office/ HDE ) this will give a simple graphical layout.

Mark-up codes can be added on a MemPad-page, so elements can be marked, pictures, lists or tables added et c., which will be displayed when the page is converted to HTML and shown in a browser.

► see: Codes for examples of how different mark-up will change how the page is displayed in a browser (or HDE), and how to insert lists, tables, pictures et c., and change the lay-out of the page.

(Export the complete 'Codes' page, convert it to HTML and compare the page as shown in HDE (or a browser) with how it looks in MemPad.

The overall layout of the final HTML page is controlled by the stylesheets used by MPhtml for conversion.

Stylesheets are CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) files. They are in HTML format, and can be edited by a txt-editor.

see: MPhtml

In order to keep MemPad pages readable, you should only use a limited amount of  codes on the page.

More advanced layout should be made in a real HTML editor (like 'Compozer', or 'Seamonkey Composer', or a wordprocessor in an office-program - like Libre-office 'Write') after the text is converted to a HTML-file.

Codes for 'Bold' or 'Underlined' text et c. can be practical - they are short, and will work as soon as the text is converted. see: Codes

In order to be converted to HTML, codes should be placed in Angle Brackets [] (Two left Angle Brackets is an escape code, that displays the Angle Brackets instead of reading the contents as a code.)(But NOT in this Featherwiki - here two angle brackets is code for internal links)

Comments  - without line-breaks! - can be put inside Angle brackets.

That way they will not be shown on the displayed HTML page

(BUT they will be in the pages source-code, and will follow if the formatted page is copied and inserted in an office program)

This function is useful for comments/links/TAG's that should not be printed.

The TxT office / MemPad / HTML /

MPhtml

MPhtml.exe is a conversion-program See: Index/Office/ MPhtml

=======================================

Text from MemPad (or from an editor) can be converted to a HTML file (web-standard)

The lay-out of the page is controlled by a Stylesheet

(Back-up copies of Stylesheets can be found in Index/SYS/ MPhtml )(In the original MemPad file TxT.help)

Use the included Stylesheets as inspiration.

F8 + m (Opens MPhtml)

The Source-file is (usually) the exported text from MemPad, usually placed in 'tmp.txt' in MemPads Data-folder (...\TxT\Kontor\2-MP)

The product-file is the finished web-page (HTML file)

It should usually be called 'tmp.htm', and be located in MemPads Data-folder.

- (in MPhtml) Open 'tmp.txt', and select a Stylesheet from the combo-box ('Template file')

The 'Title for browser' field is for the page-title that will be shown in the browser-tab.

The check-mark by 'Open it' is pre-selected, and will open the HTML file in the PC's standard-brower after conversion.

If you make a new conversion (a new file, and/or a new template), the resulting HTML file will be opened in a new browser-tab.

The old file will stay in the old tab, until it is closed. If the source is refreshed (usually by F5 in a browser) the content and lay-out will change to the latest conversion.

Old lay-outs can be saved from the browser - give the file a new name, to avoid overwriting 'tmp.htm'

If you need more formatting than the standard output from MPhtml (Which only creates margins, coloured backgrounds and headlines), you can insert codes in the MemPad Page, to insert pictures, makes bold or underlined text, et c.

The 'Edit' button in MPhtml opens the selected stylesheet (template) in windows standard text-editor.

The stylesheets (with the suffix 'tpl.txt') are HTML pages with CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) codes.

CSS is simple - but can be used for advanced lay-outs. (search for instructions and inspiration on the Internets!)

If you need real graphical editing (for creation of selection boxes et c.) it is advisable to use an HTML editor.

The Shareware 'Compozer' is recommended.

(It is a stand-alone version of 'Seamonkey Composer', which is a part of the Seamonkey browser - a Firefox clone with a classical design)

(BTW: Install 'NoScript' in your browser!)

On a PC with an office program, the converted HTML file can be used in a wordprocessor.

- The best way seems to be to open the HTML file in HDE (or a browser), copy all text, and insert it in a new wordprocessor document.

In that way the most important style-elements are kept, without having the web-elements (background colour, margins) overriding the paper-oriented settings of the wordprocessor.

The Headlines (and their hierarchy) which follows the original MemPad Page-structure, is used both in HTML editors and office programs/wordprocessors, and can be used for the creation of an index.

Margins, columns, backgrounds et c. are best made in the wordprocessor.

MPhtml makes each MemPad page into a single Bullet-point in an unordered list.

If you try to center a line in an office document made from a MPhtml converted file, you risk that the whole section is centered... avoid that by inserting a 'New Line' (Return) before and after the line that you want to center.

If longer texts have to be printed, it often pays to remove the <ul> and <li> codes from the headlines in the HTML Source (in .txt format) before copying the browser rendered HTML page into the wordprocessor document.

Codes

A few HTML codes for copying

=======================================

(Start and End codes on separate lines)

=======================================

(Export this page and view it in HDE)

(In Featherwiki, this page is for reference only - the export-functions are only active in the original MemPad TxT.help file)

=======================================

NB: How a code will look on the exported page, depends on the selected stylesheet, and the settings of your browser.

Export this page several times, each with its own stylesheet, and compare the look in a HDE window (or a browser-tab)

(And compare the stylesheets in a text-editor, to see how the effects are specified)

=======================================

An Example of different style-definitions in different stylesheets, selectable in MPhtml:

☆ A1Style vs. WhiteStyle

(A1Style is for reading in a browser / WhiteStyle is for printing)

A1Style: Bold Maroon

WhiteStyle: Bold

A1Style: Italic Maroon

WhiteStyle: Italic

A1Style: Light Blue

WhiteStyle: Underlined

[s]A1Style: Light Blue

WhiteStyle: Strikethrough[/s]

===========================

 Enhanced (Bold)

☆

[strong]

Enhanced (Strong)

[/strong]

☆

[d]

Deleted (Strikethrough text)

[/d]

☆ Horisontal line (from left to right margin)
☆ Imagelink (Here an image in the root-folder (where the .htm file is located)  Without comment.

The [br] command inserts a linebreak, making the text continue UNDER the image.

[br]

☆ Headlinecodes ('H1' til 'H4') are best avoided - they collide with MPhtml's conversion, where each MemPad page-title becomes a headline.

 [span style="font-style: italic;"]

Text that  should be italicized

[/span][br]

[span style="text-decoration: underline;"]

Text that should be underlined

[/span][br]

[div style="text-align: right;"]

Text that should be Right-aligned[br]

[/div][br]

Link

[a href="dr.dk"]

Danmarks Radio

[/a] (dr.dk)[br]

☆ Datestamp (The code is inserted in the MemPad file - the date is generated at conversion, and show when the HTML file is made:

[date=dd MMM yyyy] will be formated as:

02 apr 2017

and

[date=d. MMMM yyyy (dddd)]

will become

2. april 2017 (søndag)

(The exact look depends on the language/localisation settings on your PC)

=======================================

☆ LISTs

It is necessary to follow the example in HTML - Export this page, and convert it to HTML, to see how lists are used.

Some examples:

----------------------------------------------------------

[li]    (This list-item is on the same hierarchic level as the page - page head-lines are items in an html list)

[ul]   Here a separate list begins

[li] ...(This item is a part of the list)

(NB! If HTML is made by the A1Style stylesheet, there will be NO bulletpoints in unordered lists (The 'ul' command) <see: Index/Office/MPhtml>

[/ul]   Here the list ends

Example: List with sub-items:

[ul]

[li]Line 1

[ul]

[li]Line 2 - Sub-item 1

[li]Line 3 - Sub-item 2

[/ul]

[li]Line 4

Line 5

[li]Line 6

[/ul]

By comparison of the MemPad page and the generated HTML page, it is obvious that the bullet-type and margin changes from the first item marked 'li', and to the 6 numbered lines in the example.

That is because my standard CSS stylesheet (A1Style.tpl.txt) defines the text area (with the yellow background) as ONE unordered list, with pagetitles from MemPads index-pane as headlines.

Any list you generate will thus be inserted in the list that MPhtml use to generate the headlines.

Line 5 is not an independent list-item, but is a part of Line 4.

And Line 2 and 3 has become sub-items; a list inside the list.

Example:

[li] Not a Headline

[/ul]

[li] Not a Headline #2

See how the "/ul" command moves the margin; That is because it becomes end-command for the full page-list; By export MemPads node-names/page-titles will be converted to items in an unordered list.

Eg the page-title "Codes" will, in the .htm version of this page, be displayed as the top-level item in an unordered list (And will be marked as a Headline ("H1"), displayed as defined by the used CSS stylesheet)

[ul]

This "ul" command reestablishes the margins that was changed (bu "/ul") in the "Not a Headline" example.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Ordered List (Numbered items)

[/ol]

Example: (ordered list inserted in an unordered liste

Characters and pages that can be copied for use in MemPad

=======================================

☆ Special Characters

- Export the page, and see how it looks in HDE (or a browser)

(NB: Some characters may be invisible, depending on which font is used in MemPad - and in the browser)

☆ Templates

- Pages with pre-made text (like .htm codes) is copied with Ctrl-a Ctrl-c and inserted on the page where the template is needed.

- Complete page-structures (with sub-pages) for export; to be inserted at the place where the template is needed

Office

☆ TxT office Version 0.2NE.1 #

Release R3 (20240517)

Name: New Evolution / One True Quartet

The TxT office (in danish: TxT kontoret) is a collection of small writing-tools, set up so they are easy to begin using)

Each of the programs are tested by themselves and as part of the TxT office, and are selected among many candidates.

The main purpose is stability and security.

The target audience are those who do not want to have to worry about the stability of the programs, and the security of the texts they write - and who do not have the time to search among the plethora of available programs when a task is to be solved.

Portable free- and shareware solves the problem of updating licences (and makes it easy to share the programs with friends and co-workers), and can deliver files with long-term stability and without licensing problems (important for archival purposes)

Small programs are easy to store.

If your writing environment can be on all machines, it is easy to continue working. (And small programs are also fast on older machines)

Never underestimate the value of working in a known environment - creativity flows better when you do not need to use mental effort on un-familiar tools.

Mini

► Minimal installation - Only the neccessary parts! #

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

The unzipped TxT office contains all originale read-me and help-files of the programs

=======================================

the central programs are in the '..\TxT\OFFICE\2-MP' folder.

This folder is 1,4 MB, and will work by itself. (ie. the folder can be copied and be used in isolation)

...................................................................

But it can be made smaller.

Here are a few suggestions for selecting necessary parts:

(© Note: Copies of program-folders without help-files and more is ONLY for personal use - NOT for distribution)

☆ See: Mcore(Mc) Minimal MemPad installation (220 kB)

☆ See: Mikro-Pad(Mp) The neccessary + menu (0,5 - 1MB)

☆ see: Mini-Pad(MP)  Mini TxT office w. limited help (1.1 MB)

The TxT office / Office / Content / Mini /

Mcore(Mc)

☆ MemPad.exe (200 kB)

Can run alone, in all Windows folders.

The first time the program saves a file, it will create an INI file:

☆ Memlst.ini

=> 760 byte

If the notefile is called 'mem' it will be placed beside the program and INI file in Windows Explorer. (The file suffix .lst is preselected, but can be changed see: /Index/MemPad/ Datafolder )

The minimal installation work, but it can be improved by simple means.

The Insert-menus (Ctrl-MENU et al.) are small but significantly extend the functions.

This installation works best if it is in its own folder - it can be called anything, but we will use the name 'Mc'

☆ InsCtrl.txt

☆ InsShift.txt

☆ InsShiftCtrl.txt

=> 480 byte

The Launcher menu (F8) and the context menu (MENU key or rightclick) are also nice:

☆ Lookup.txt

☆ Launcher.txt

=> 546 byte

Danish menus

☆ Danish.lng

=> 4,52 kB

► Total size of the 'Mcore' installation: 206,3 kB

No help is included... but if you want it, not much space is needed:

☆ MemPad.help (53,6 kB)

☆ Kontor.help (200 kB)

☆ TxT.help (200 kB)

=======================================

► Use:

Eg. for annotated file-lists in folders with alternative versions of texts, images, videos et c.

A simple textfile can be hard to navigate if it describes a deep file-structure with many files.

- An outliner creates an easy overview

- MemPad is so small that a copy can be kept in all relevant folders

- The files are safe for archiving - they can be read by any text-editor (also in the future)

- MemPads export-function makes it easy to send a copy of (eg.) a file-catalogue to a master catalogue in another folder / on another machine.

- Let every folder (and user) have a separate #timestamp (F5), so it, is easy to see where a post originates.

This function is handy in multi-person projects.

Mikro-Pad(Mp)

The Mp folder contains the functional elements of the MP folder and a little more.

=======================================

Make it by copying the MP folder, change the name, and delete the unwanted files + add:

A copy of Qsel.exe - The Mikro-Pad menu is already in the MP folder (MP.qsl)

A copy of TED - which normally can be found in the 3-ED folder

=> Below is a suggestion for a setup that fits the included Mikro-Pad Menu.

-The list shows necessary files: Use it as a starting point for making your own selection.

- Make a personalized Mikro-Pad menu by adding/subtracting links in Qsel

=======================================

► NO help files in the list: keep them if space is not critical.

☆ Qsel

- The Launcher keeping the system together - The Menu for the Mp folder is called MP. (the file MP.qsl is already in the '2-MP' folder)

☆ Mempad

- Outliner and Editor

☆ MPhtml

- Converts MemPad-pages to formatted HTML (Web-format)

☆ ShowTx

- Simple and efficient editor (alone, or integrated in MemPad)

☆ TedNPad

- Strong sorting- and analysis-functions; 9 extra clipboards

☆ HDE

- Viewer for HTML and GIF files - can write and edit HTML.

Mini-Pad(MP)

Mini-Pad is a pre-packaged mini version of the TxT office. #

There are two versions:

☆ In the normal TxT office, the MP folder is found inside the TxT folder.

It contains two sub-folders:

► DATA

► PRG

● The MP folder will work by itself - Open MemPad.exe in the PRG folder, and follow the instructions - all user generated data will automatically be put in the DATA folder.

● The MP folder must NOT be distributed, and is only for the use of an owner of the original TxT office

=======================================

☆ On the distribution page for the TxT office, the file MiniPad.zip will be found.

Extracting this will generate the following structure:

► MiniPad

► MP

► DATA

► PRG

► MP-Sources

● The MP folder will work by itself - Open MemPad.exe in the PRG folder, and follow the instructions - all user generated data will automatically be put in the DATA folder.

● The full MiniPad folder contains original distribution folders for the included programs.

● The full MiniPad folder can freely be distributed. (3.5 MB)

● The included readme.txt file contains an explanation of the set-up.

=======================================

(Copy of readme.txt):

MiniPad version 2.1 (release 1) is a part of the TxT office.

The 'MiniPad' folder (with the 'MP-Sources' sub-folder) is meant for distribution.

The 'MP' folder contains all functions, and can be used everywhere.

- the programs are Portable, IE they should NOT be installed under MS Windows (all versions from XP and up), but are run from the folder (or USB key) where they are placed.

- contains all writing functions of the TxT office, with export to tables and HTML files (and HTML editing)

To save space, there is nearly no help.

- help-files for individual programs is found in their distribution-folders in the 'MP-Sources' folder.

- help-files for the environment (the integration of all programs) can be found in the full TxT office installation.

========================================

☆☆☆ GUIDE ☆☆☆ #

●  The MiniPad set-up is intended for separation of programs and data

- - All personal data goes into the 'MP' folders 'DATA' subfolder.

- - To use the functions, you must follow this guide

========================================

●  The Outliner MemPad is the central program in MiniPad.

- - Run 'MemPad.exe' in the 'MP' folders 'PRG' sub-folder.

- - That will open the file 'Minipad.lst'

●  From this file (MiniPad.lst) you can get into the 'DATA' folder by using the Launcher:

► Enter:

F8 + z

- - That will open the 'Z.lst' file in the 'DATA' folder

- - Use it as a Landing- / Index-file

► From 'Z.lst' new files can be made by the F9 key ('New (.lst)')

- - The function will replace the current window with a new file.

- - If you wish to keep the current window open, a new file can be made via the 'MemPad' menu  (Alt + m + n + Enter)

=======================================

☆ Windows short-cuts do not work with relative file-paths.

- - Therefore, to open the Most Recently Used file in the DATA folder, the shortcut ('MiniPad-Genvej') found in the MP folder, must be edited.

► After the MP folder is placed where it is needed, do this:

- - Make a new shortcut to 'MemPad.exe' (by right-click menu) in the 'PRG' folder.

- - In the file properties of the new shortcut, look at the 'Shortcut' tab.

► Copy 'Destination' - and insert it the same place in 'MiniPad Genvej'

(Now the shortcut will open MemPad, but in the wrong folder)

► Then insert the copied line in the 'Start In' field.

- - EDIT the line, so it ends with '\MP\DATA'

- - Save the changes. ('MiniPad-Genvej' will now open the Most Recently Used file in the 'DATA' folder - the first time it will be 'Z.lst')

- - 'MiniPad-Genvej' can now be copied and placed on Windows desktop - or rightclick on it, and add it to the Process line, or the Windows Start Menu.

- - Or use a Qsel menu, if the TxT office already is on the PC.

(Qsel also contains a 'Start in' function, for programs operating in another folder than the one containing the EXE file)

=======================================

MiniPad (the 'MP' folder) contains ready-made INI files, setting up the internal links.

☆ Due to space constraints, the user will have to add the programs.

- - Therefore the following EXE files must be copied from the TxT office:

CSVFileView.exe

edx.exe

HtmlDocEdit.exe

Mempad.exe

MPhtml.exe

Qsel

Program Launcher

=======================================

☆ 3 pre-made shortcut menus are included (See: Index/ SYS /Qsel/)

'Office' - Menu for The TxT office

'MS' -  for Windows programs (like Wordpad)

'Startup' - Items in this Menu will autostart when Qsel is opened

Jump between menus with the TAB key

☆ Create your own shortcut-menus:

- Use the F2 key; select 'New Category'. Name the new menu

- Drag and drop shortcuts from Windows Explorer.

- Qsel autodetects if it is on a removable media; check the checkmark at *Running on a Removable Media' in Qsels 'General Settings' menu (F3)

- Menus are contained in '.qsl' files.

- startmenu is selected in 'General Settings' (F3)

=======================================

F1 Help (in english)

F2 Add or edit shortcuts

F3 General Settings

Menu key (Rightclick) opens the context menu

=======================================

☆ If the programs are run from the Harddisc (ie. NOT from a removable media) it is recommended to make a keyboard short-cut, to make it easy to open Qsel no matter where you are working.

Recommended short-cut: Ctrl-F2

(If it is not already in use!)

Select the short-cut in 'General Settings' (F3)

=======================================

☆ In the TxT office set-up, the hidden 'Startup' menu is activated.

Use the F2 key, and click the 'Categories' button - Select 'Startup' to edit the items (or, if no autostart is wanted, the menu can be deleted)

The name can also be changed; if 'Startup' is preceded by a semicolon (;) the auto-start-function will be deactivated.

If you hold down the Ctrl key, while clicking the shortcut to Qsel, the autostart will be temporarily deactivated.

You can make a shortcut that do NOT activate the startup menu. In the settings for the short-cut, a '/noStartup' (without citation marks ( ') should be added to the Destination (or Target) line.

MemPad

MemPad is the main program in the TxT office package.

=======================================

☆ It is a strong Outliner / Text-editor.

The program is continually developed by the maker, mr. Horst Schaeffer

(www.horstmuc.de)

► Help can be found in this file on the page:

See: Index/ MemPad

- or use the F1 key to open the original (english) helpfile. (MemPad.help)

► The help for the TxT office (this file) can be opened with the build-in launcher (F8 key, or click the chevron in the Tool line)

Select by entering an initial letter:

D Opens Dansk Hjælp (Danish help in the Kontor.help file)

H Opens the english help-file (TxT.help)

The selected help-file will open in a new window.

☆ If MemPad is run from the harddisc, it is recommended to make a keyboard-shortcut, making it possible to open it from anywhere on the computer.

Recommended short-cut: Ctrl-F1

(If it is not already in use!)

2 programs are specially integrated in MemPad (the editor ShowTx and the conversion-program MPhtml, that can convert pages from MemPad to HTML files)

See: Index/Office/ ShowTx

See: Index/Office/ MPhtml_1

HtmlDocEdit is a small viewer for HTML files - it functions as a viewer (and editor!) for simple graphical files, making it possible to see the output from MemPad without opening a browser.

The program will display tables, images (including animated GIF's)

It can be used to write HTML files, and as a GIF viewer, but the primary function is as HTML viewer.

► See: Index/Office/ HDE

The TxT office / Office /

ShowTx

A small text-editor

=======================================

- Few functions, but a strong competitor for MS Notebook

▬

Can be opened from MemPad with copied text:

- Select and copy (Ctrl-c) text in MemPad

- Use the Menu-key (or rightclick) and select from the context-menu

(enter the initial letter!)

☆ View (ShowTx)

Use this function to show a MemPad page, other than the one you are currently on. Several ShowTx windows with different texts can be open at the same time.

The file can NOT be saved, and will disappear when the window is closed.

These commands will work in View-mode:

Ctrl-W (Word-wrap); Ctrl-f (Search); F3 (search for next instance of search term); Alt-1 and Alt-2 (2 different typefaces)

The content can be edited and copied, so the content can be inserted where needed.

☆ EDIT (ShowTx)

For simple editing of text.

See: Index/Office/ CSVFileView for a tool to extract text, and present it in a table.

▬

For distraction-free writing in a nearly empty window, the Menu and the Statusline can be hidden (and shown) with Ctrl-m and Ctrl-b

Select one of two typefaces with Alt-1 and Alt-2

The typefaces can be changed in the menu (View - Font select)

ShowTx can easily be added to the right-click menu in Windows Explorer.

Make a copy of ShowTx.exe, and write 'Shell:Sendto' (without quotation marks) in the adress line in Windows Explorer.

Go to the Sendto folder, and insert ShowTx.exe - ShowTx is now a part of the right-click (context) menu.

► NB (Bug)

When sending text to ShowTx from within MemPad, you will sometimes be presented with a command-box asking:

'File was changed by another app: Reload?'

Answer 'N' (for 'No')

The TxT office / Office /

MPhtml

Converts text (exported from MemPad) to HTML

=======================================

☆ HTML files (.htm) can

▬ be viewed in a web-browser (or the included HtmlDocEdit viewer)

▬ be opened in Libreoffice (Openoffice) or MS Word, for further editing (in HTML or another format, like .odt; .doc; .docx; or .pdf

By inserting simple pieces of code on the MemPad page, the output can include Tables, Illustrations and Animations (See: Index/MemPad/ HTML )

☆ The lay-out of the finished .htm page is controlled by template files.

The templates use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) code, that is inserted in the header of the created HTML file.

- Select between included templates in the MPhtml window

- make your own template, or edit one of the included.

► Copies of included templates (.tpl.txt files) See: Index/ SYS /MPhtml/

=> A1Style = Web-style for screen reading

=> WhiteStyle = Wide margins and no colors (for printing)

=> PlainStyle = For copying into wordprocessor-files

☆ For the best results of inserting HTML in word-processor files:

Open the converted file with HtmlDocEdit, select and copy all, and insert it in a new word-processor file.

If typography, margins et al. is selected before insertion, the inserted text will be shown with these settings.

▬ When exported, MemPads pages/subpages are converted into an unordered list (Bulletpoints)

Office-programs can use this structure to create an index.

- Subpages are indented one Tab-stop.

- An '/ul' command in angle-brackets [] on a page, will move later pages one level UP (left) in the page-hierarchy.

▬ To avoid bullet-points in headlines, their display is supressed by the command 'list-style:none' in A1Style.tpl.txt

- If you want to see bullet-points in an inserted list (unordered list/'ul'), you can either insert a character (like ☆ ) or edit the list in an HTML editor...

- Numbered lists (ordred lists ('ol') are displayed as normal, with consecutive numbered points.

The TxT office / Office /

HDE

HtmlDocEdit #

File-viewer for HTML-files

=======================================

Can write simple HTML 2, but are able to read HTML 4 (without javascript!) and display images and animated GIF's.

Primarily incuded to make et possible to view the results, when MemPad pages are exported to a HTML file for use on the web - or further processing.

Also good as a GIF viewer.

When it is opened from MemPads launcher-function (F8), it will automatically open tmp.htm (the standard name for files, that MPhtml has converted from exported text in tmp.txt)

#BUG

HDE do not accept relative links. (and do not work with Short.exe)

The first time you open HDE with a text from outside its home directory the tmp.htm file will have to be found by manually navigating to it.

☆ NB:

HDE is a viewer, and will close the file without asking to save changes!

If you want to save an HTML file generated by MPhtml, be aware that HDE saves in HTML 2 format - so part of the page header (CSS commands generated by MPhtml.exe) can be overwritten.

Generally you should only save if you need simple formatting.

Use 'Kompozer' or an office program if you want to edit HTML files.

The TxT office / Office /

TED

TED Notepad (TedNPad) #

Texteditor with advanced sorting; 9 extra clipboards; character format conversion, generation of alphabetical wordlists, et al.

==============================================

Webhelp: https://jsimlo.sk/notepad/manual/wiki/index.php/TED_Notepad_Manual

(F1 opens a page with local copies of parts of the authors web-page in your browser.

The MemPad file TED.help contains extensive copies from the authors help-page.

Open it from any MemPad help window via the list in the 'File' menu.

In the folder 3-ED there is an HTML document with help for Regular Expressions (RegEx), the powerful language used for advanced search/sorting.

==============================================

☆  Log-files

TED can generate logfiles. When a logfile is opened, the cursor will jump to the last line and insert a date/timestamp and a new-line, so you immediately can begin writing a log note (journal)

▬►  Any textfile will be used as a logfile if the first line is:

.LOG

☆  9 Extra Clipboards

Ctrl-0 (Control and zero) for a list of the contents of the clipboards.

Alt-1 (to Alt-9) Copy selected text to clipboard nr. 1 (to 9)

Ctrl-1 (to Ctrl-9) Insert text from clipboard nr. 1 (to 9)

☆  Other special functions:

▬ ►  Swap (Ctrl-K) Exchange selected text with contents of the clipboard.

(Contents of the clipboard will overwrite the selected text AND the selected text will be copied to the clipboard (and can now be inserted with Ctrl-v)

▬►  Ctrl-D selects the word where the cursor is located.

▬►   Double find-function:

The normal Find-menu (CTRL-F) opens a searchbox (find-menu) (where selected text (search-term) is pre-selected)

F3 key to jump to the next instance of the search-term.

Shift-F3 to select until the next instance.

ESC closes the search-box

- - Select another search term,

Enter Ctrl-u to open the secondary search-box (Look-for-menu (with selected search term pre-selected)

F2 to jump to next instance of secondary search-term

ESC to close the search-box.

That is, you can search for a new word without deleting the first.

=> Use the function to find a start-tag with F3, and SELECT the text between it and an end-tag, by using SHIFT-F2

========================================

▬►   Automatically finishing a word or line, is a practical functionality if you are writing a text where a hard-to-spell word is repeatedly used, or if you need to add posts in a table (.csv) file.

CTRL-Space

Finishes a word. (or opens a selection-menu, that is shorter if you have entered more letters)

SHIFT-CTRL Space

Repeated use of the Space-bar (while SHIFT and CTRL are held down) inserts words and characters one by one, based on the line immediately above.

This Function is used on text with comma-separated values (.csv format) ie. a text-copy of a table.

Words (columns) are auto-finished one by one - when you reach a column that needs to be edited, you can either write the new word, or (if it has been used before) select it from the list in the CTRL-Space menu.

- You can copy a line looking like the one you need, and insert it just above where you need the new line (Post)

▬► An alphabetized word-list can be copied from a MemPad page (or a .txt file) and be used for spell-checking; write the initial letters of the difficult word at he end of a word-list (with correct spelling...), enter Ctrl-space, select the right word, and copy (Ctrl-c) the word for insertion in the writing file.

========================================

▬►  How to make an alphabetized list of all words in a text:

(To update your personal dictionary, spell-check of terms, et al.)

The text is inserted into TED, and selected. Then enter:

Alt t (Opens the Tools menu)

t (opens the Text sub-menu)

w (execute the command Extract Words => makes a list)

Ctrl-a (select the newly generated list)

Alt t s s (opens the sorting-menu)

- In the tab 'First...' you select 'Entire line', 'Direction' should be 'Ascending', 'Sort as' selected as 'Text', and put a checkmark at 'Ignore case' - Now the 'Sort' button can be used.

Ctrl-a (Again, select the entire list)

Alt-Ctrl-x (open the 'Find Duplicates' box)

- Put a checkmark by: 'All lines', 'Ignore case', and 'Count duplicates' - now the 'Find Duplicates' button can be used

=> the result is an alphabetized word-liste, with the frequency of each word.

================================================

F6 (Inserts File-name)

Ctrl-F6 (Inserts path and file-name)

F5 (Inserts timestamp)

F9 (Open the statistics, counting characters, lines, paragraphs, words et c.)

Alt a (opens the Favourite-menu. Enter:

1 (opens tmp.txt - exported text from MemPad)

2 (tmp.htm - HTML file generated by MPhtml)

3 (Report.htm - generated by CSVFileView)

=======================================

If TED.exe is opened with the argument '/v'  text from Windows clipboard will be inserted in the new window.

This function is used in MemPads context menu.

The TxT office / Office /

fS

f S e k r i t  is an encrypted container for notes.

=======================================

For use when you need to transport passwords et c. on an USB stick.

It does NOT store temporary files in windows, and is safe on loaned PC's - even if key-loggers are installed, the hacker can not see what is inside the program window.

The empty file f S e k r i t . p o r t a b l e must be in the program folder - it is used when creating temporary files outside of the windows-structure.

The program creates a text-file with a built-in editor - a file can be distributed alone, and be opened on any windows computer.

=======================================

Web-based password services (like Keepass et al.) can be hacked, have poor security, or be taken over by malicious actors.

(Big Data = Much Money)

As per 2019, the police in UK/Australia/France and a batch of dictatorships, can demand backdoors installed in crypto-programs!

The TxT office / Office /

Edx

E d X o r  is a reasonably advanced editor (don't let the size fool you)

=======================================

The program is a text editor (line MS Notebook) with extra functions:

- can save encrypted text, and encrypt files without opening them

- can encrypt selected text

- can derive hash-values of selected text

- be a clipboard; text copied to windows clip-board can be auto-appended to a file

- has a built-in program launcher

- can display disc-usage, and close programs

- can copy file-names and paths from Windows Explorer

- can remove or change the programs data in Windows registry database

- can hide files; eg. a notefile can be hidden inside an image or an office-file

- can edit timestamps of files

- can convert binary files to text (and back) for print or e-mail

=======================================

The included (english) help-file contains more than meets the eye;

Look in the hovertext appearing when the mouse-pointer touches the menu-items

- remember to let the mouse-pointer touch the inside of the newly opened hover-text boxes....

The TxT office set-up of EdX is in a .reg file.

If others have used the program, or if you have changed the settings, they can be removed from the windows registry database - open EdX and enter:

Alt o r c

(One key at a time - look at the menus opening when you do...)

A wanted .reg profile can be saved by entering:

Alt o r b

The .reg file is saved in the program-folder.

If you run it (doubleclick), the Windows Registry Database is updated.

You can save several .reg files with different names. In that way you can easily change between set-ups, optimized for different tasks.

► Encryption of selected MemPad pages (or selected lines)

Open EdX (from Qsel, or in MemPad by entering F8 e e)

Write the text that should be hidden

Select it

Open the Format menu by entering Alt a

Select encryption-algorithm - (ROT13 is for hiding spoilers, QCypher is the most secure)

While the Format menu is open enter

q (opens QCypher command-box)

Enter the Password (twice - TAB key to jump) and use the Return key

The encrypted text is in binary format - to save it, it must be converted to Base 64.

Again enter

Alt a (the format menu is again opened)

6 (this converts selected text to Base 64)

Now copy, and insert into MemPad

NB:

Insert on a new line (or better: at the top of an empty page) in MemPad, and be sure that there are no spaces or empty lines that can be copied by accident.

Just a single space, hiding after the inserted block, will make decryption impossible!

► Decryption of hidden text from MemPad

Select and copy (NB: ONLY the originally inserted block of crypto-text!)

Open EdX (Enter: F8 e e)

Insert the copied block of crypto-text

Enter: Alt a (opens the format menu)

Use arrow-keys to select 'Base64'

Hold down the Ctrl key, and use the 'Return' key

Again enter: Alt a to open the Format menu

Enter Q (and enter the password in the 2 boxes, followed by Return-key)

The clear-text is now readable - to improve security, let it stay inside EdX, and close it (without saving...) as soon as possible

See: 001 for a little example. The password is 'Password' (without the quotation marks)

Gwennel

Gwennel Doc #

Very fast graphical editor, saving in the ODT format (.odt is the text format for Open Office / Libre Office)

=======================================

Useful if you have to send text that will be used in an office program (.odt files can also be opened in MS Word)

The program is a stylesheet editor. But if it is opened with a completed stylesheet  (like in the TxT office) can be 'abused' as a text editor / micro word processor.

The internal data format is not compatible with anything(!) so it is mostly for shorter texts, or for adding formatting to text copied from MemPad pages. (or other texts in .txt format)

The program is abandonware, and some functions do not work (eg. tables will lose some of their lay-out when opened by office programs)

The program is included because it is fast(!) and an easy way to make a short text for use in office programs.

Open Gwennel with Qsel (or from MemPads launcher (F8) menu)

- the document 'standard_stylesheet.gwen' will open

- The displayed text is an 'how-to'. The gist is:

- - Save the document under a new name (but with the .gwen suffix), and overwrite it with your own text.

When you have finished editing, save a copy with the .odt suffix - this can be used by all office programs.

The TxT office / Office /

uniCSVed

Table editor #

=======================================

For easy creation, editing, sorting, filtering and joining of CSV files (comma-separated textfiles, that can be read by spreadsheets and office-programs)

The easiest way to create a new table is to write the column headers (separated by comma or TAB) in a text-file (.txt format), and save it with the name of the table, and the suffix .csv

(Eg. 'Table_1.csv')

The creation can also be done inside MemPad, by writing column headers (again separated by comma or TAB) and using the context (right-click) menu to open it in CSVFileView - from where it can be saved in several formats.

If you want to edit it, you should save it as a .csv file (ie: with the file suffix .csv) - otherwise it can't be opened by uniCSVed.

See: Index/Office/ CSVFileView

The newly created file can now be opened by uniCSVed, and data can be input via the input-box (opened with Alt e a)

Tables in CSV format can be opened by any text-editor, or spreadsheet.

(NB: MS Excel do not understand UTF-8 encoded caracters, which is standard here, and on the internets, because it shows all international characters. If you must use MS Excel, the file should be encoded in ANSI)

If a .csv file is opened in a text-editor, the contents can be copied and inserted on a MemPad page.

If such a page (or any comma-separated text block) is copied from MemPad, and is inserted into a text-editor and saved (with the .csv suffix) you will again have a table.

If you only copy the first line, you will have an empty table with the correct colum headers - for data-entry.

If you often have to make data entry in tables that you do not want to keep on a removable media (like your contact-list), it is wise to save a header-file with the column headers (traditionally with the .csh suffix) and make it read-only.

This file can now be opened, and saved with the .csv suffix - and can now be used for data-entry in the correct format. The saved data can later be merged with the master-table on your main PC.

If a MemPad page containing commaseparated data is exported, and converted into HTML, the table will not automatically be generated - but all office programs can easily generate a table from comma separated text.

The simplest way is to use MemPads table generator - it can save tables in HTML format... See: Index/Office/ CSVFileView

If you open a file in uniCSVed, and everything is compressed into the first field, you must select the correct character used for field-separation.

- Click on the Tab 'Modify'

- Click on (or enter) the character that is used in the current file (often a comma or semicolon)

- Click on the 'Reload' button in the tool-bar

To avoid overwriting data, it is advisable to work in a copy of the original table - copy the file you want to work with to the uniCSVed folder, and move it back when you have finished editing.

Save partial tables as 'tmp.csv' and filter-output as 'flt.csv'.

Name and save temporary files if they are to be used later - files with the names 'tmp' and 'flt' can be overwritten next time a temporary file is needed.

(This avoids build-up of obsolete files, and makes it easy to make links to the current temporary files from MemPad, TED and CSVFileView)

☆ Tip:

Use the MENU key (or rightclick) to open the context-menu:

MENU A

=> Opens the 'Add Record' box

- - - If you (before using the shortcut) moves the uniCSVed window down so only the top line is visible, you can see the rest of your screen while entering data.

The TAB or the Return key moves the cursor to a new field.

When all fields have been filled: Put a checkmark at 'Apply Automatic', and click on the green 'Next' arrow.

After the last post is entered (and you have clicked 'Next'!), the Esc key is used to close the box.

Now maximize the program-window by Alt-Spacebar, and check that the entered posts appear in the table. Save!

MENU R

=> Opens the column-search menu (search in selected columns)

-------------------

- - - Search the full table with 'Global Search' in the 'Search' tab

- - - Search the full table with the Filter function in the 'Misc' tab

Write the search term and apply checkmark at 'Set Filter'

The filtered and selected posts can be saved by the button 'Save Filtered Items' (save as flt.csv)

The TxT office / Office /

CSVFileView

A viewer for Tables. #

=======================================

The program opens .csv files (text files with data arranged as Comma Separated Values) and displays the contents in a table. The Table can be sorted, filtered, and saved in several formats. (Reasonably advanced but easy to use)

The program is not meant for entering data (use uniCSVed) but for manipulating and saving existing data.

2 functions make it ideal for use with the TxT office:

It can open a table with data from Windows clipboard, and is integrated in MemPads context (right-click) menu.

And it can generate an HTML table - viewable in a standard browser (or HDE) - that can be saved as is, or integrated in any HTML document.

See the programs own help-file: CSVFileView.chm for more help!

It is recommended to keep a copy of the program in the 2-MP folder. If you do, the pre-made shortcut in MemPads context menu will work, and make it easy to open text in a table.

See: Index/MemPad/Functions/ Send To

This is usable if you have generated an HTML file, and wants to insert a table without using an HTML editor.

On newer 64 bit computers use the version of the program found in the folder

► csvfileview-x64

☆ Example (using functions available in versions above 2.52)
